Dosage of liposome based drugs

There is a huge difference between dosage of a non encapsulated drug versus the liposomal formulation of the same drug. As as example the liposome form of Amphotericin B can be applied in significantly higher dosage than the conventional Amphotericin B. Liposomal encapsulation buffers the toxicity of the Amphotericin B and therefore it can be applied in higher dosage.

About a year ago two patients died in England, simply because the health care provider did not understand the difference between a regular drug and a liposome based drug.
